JOHANNESBURG – Indian captain Virat Kohli chose to bat first upon winning the toss in the third Sunfoil Test against South Africa here on Wednesday morning.

The tourists made two changes to the team that was beaten in Centurion last week, with Ajinkya Rahane, the squad’s vice-captain, coming in for Rohit Sharma, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar, replaced off-spinner Ravi Ashwin.

The South Africans made just one change, also choosing to drop their spinner, Kehav Maharaj, with Andile Phehlukwayo playing his fourth Test.

It means South Africa will start with five seamers, which even for a surface with as much grass as the one prepared here, seems like overkill.

Vernon Philander will be playing his 50th Test.

India has never lost a Test match at the Wanderers, winning one and drawing three at the ‘Bullring.’

Teams for the Wanderers test:

South Africa: Aiden Markram, Dean Elgar, Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers, Faf du Plessis (capt), Andile Phelukwayo, Quinton de Kock, Vernon Philander, Kagiso Rabada, Morne Morkel, Lungi Ngidi.

India: KL Rahul, Murali Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli (capt), Ajinkya Rahane, Pathiv Patel, Hardik Pandya, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah.

Umpires: Aleem Dar (Pakistan), Ian Gould (England). TV Umpire: Michael Gough (England). Referee - Andy Pycroft (Zimbabwe).
