Belgian Museeuw wins 100th Paris-Roubaix

Roubaix, France - Caked in mud, Johan Museeuw of Belgium on Sunday won the the 100th edition of the Paris-Roubaix cycling race held in challenging weather conditions.

Museeuw, 36, who is due to retire from the sport at the end of the season, broke from a 12-strong leader group with 40km left and en route to his third victory in Roubaix. His other wins were 1996 and 2000.

Steffen Wesemann of Germany was second over the 261km distance, 3 minutes and 2 seconds adrift. Tom Boonen of Belgium placed third.

This year's edition featured 49km on the dreaded cobblestones and was marred by heavy rain which made conditions even more difficult. - Sapa-DPA
