Sun City, South Africa – Scotland's Paul Lawrie gave himself the chance of an ideal end to his comeback year after carding a 3-under 69 for the halfway lead at the Nedbank Golf Challenge at Sun City.

Lawrie had just one bogey on Friday on another tough day for players at Gary Player Country Club. He made four birdies for a 4-under-par total of 140 and a one-shot lead over Ryder Cup teammate Martin Kaymer heading to the weekend.

Germany's Kaymer had five birdies, and only back-to-back bogeys on Nos. 8 and 9 kept him back.

Charl Schwartzel recovered from a bogey on his second hole to go around in 71 for a share of third at 1 under with Francesco Molinari, Louis Oosthuizen and Bill Haas. Defending champion Lee Westwood is level par. – Sapa-AP
