Berlin - World record holder Paul Biedermann clinched the German 400m freestyle national title on Friday in his first race since the 2012 London Olympics.

Biedermann finished in a time of 3min 47.89sec, a long way off his world record of 3:40.07 but good enough for him to book a place at the forthcoming European championships to be staged in Berlin in August.

Biedermann, 27, missed the 2013 world championships in Barcelona because of a virus.
