PARIS - Montpellier's South African hooker Bismarck du Plessis is set to play in Saturday's Top 14 final against Castres after escaping a sanction from league officials following a citation.
Du Plessis, a world champion with the Springboks in 2007, was cited for putting his hand in the face of Lyon lock Felix Lambey during Montpellier's 40-14 semi-final victory on Friday.
However National Rugby League (LNR) officials ruled the gesture did not merit a sanction, adding that 34-year-old Du Plessis "will not be summoned by the disciplinary commission".
The news will be a huge boost to Montpellier, and Du Plessis, who is one of the southern side's key forwards.
Du Plessis will return to the South African national team for the first time since the 2015 Rugby World Cup in England.
The hooker has been named in the squad for a one off Test against Wales in the United States and a three match series against the touring England side.AFP
