Durban – Bismarck du Plessis will captain the Sharks in 2014, the Durban franchise announced on Thursday.

The Springbok hooker takes over the armband from Keegan Daniel and will get his first chance to lead the team in a pre-season friendly against English club Saracens at Allianz Park in London next Saturday.

“He's a freak and one of the best players in the world,” Sharks director of rugby Jake White said.

“He's a leader by example and I have no doubt he will be a success.”

The Sharks have also named three vice-captains in Odwa Ndungane, Jean Deysel and Patrick Lambie. – Sapa
