Sydney – Former Wallaby captain George Smith will return to the ACT Brumbies on a short-term contract for the rest of the Super Rugby season, the club said Monday.

The 32-year-old veteran of 128 Brumbies games and 110 Tests is contracted to Japanese club Suntory but will use the off-season to complete the forward pack for the Canberra-based team.

“George's record and ability to win games is outstanding,” head coach Jake White said.

“The guy has won Super Rugby Championships, he's won big games for the Wallabies and he's played in a Rugby World Cup final so I want him to bring that winning culture back here to the Brumbies.”

Smith, who has also played for French side Toulon, will begin training with the Brumbies next week, and can be selected to play in the home game against the NSW Waratahs on March 9. – Sapa-AFP
