Cape Town - Good wishes poured in from around the country for Bok wing Bryan Habana and his wife, Janine, after the birth of their first child on Father’s Day.

The excited rugby star took to Twitter to share his joy with fans, posting a picture of little Timothy Jacob with the caption: “So I got the best Father’s Day gift ever yesterday… Welcome to the world Timothy Jacob Habana #ourgift- fromabove”.

As of Monday afternoon, “Habana” was trending on Twitter and his announcement got over 34 000 likes.

It has been quite a week for Habana, who celebrated his 31st birthday on Thursday and scored two tries against Wales in the first Test at Kings Park in Durban on Saturday.

Timothy was born just after 2pm on Sunday, weighing 3.695kg. He was 52cm in length.

“It was by far the most wonderful and miraculous gift any father could receive on Father’s Day and we are both grateful to God for our little miracle,” Habana said.

“Mum and baby are both healthy and doing extremely well, and dad could not be more proud.”

Janine guest stars on SABC2’s Hello Doctor. In her latest episode she shared tips about healthy exercises for baby and expectant mothers. She’s also the owner of a women’s only fitness centre called Femme Fitness.

“Thanks for all the love, prayers and support. We are indescribably grateful, happy and blessed,” said Habana.

Former Springbok coach Nick Mallett tweeted: “Congratulations @BryanHabana and Janine on the arrival of your bundle of joy! The Boks’ wing position is settled for the year 2036… ”
