Sir Bill Beaumont has hit back in the World Rugby election race and revealed he wants to create a loophole that would allow Manu Tuilagi to end his Test career playing for Samoa.

The campaign will go down to the wire as The Mail on Sunday can reveal that rival Agustin Pichot has secured the backing of New Zealand, South Africa and Australia.

In a battle between north and south, Beaumont - who has the support of the Six Nations - has stepped up his bid to win the 11 remaining votes.

"You could also work out a criteria to boost the Pacific Islands. Charles Piutau could return to play for Tonga after a four-year stand-down."

"Semesa Rokoduguni, the Tuilagis, the Vunipolas who could all qualify for the likes of Fiji, Samoa, Tonga."

"When they’re coming to the end of their years they might fancy one last hoorah with those countries."
