Johannesburg – The Golden Lions have signed a host of new players for the 2013 season, the union said on Thursday.

The new players were already involved in current pre-season planning, assistant coach Johan Ackermann said in a statement.

“I am very happy these players have decided to join us and further their rugby careers here at the Lions,” Ackermann said.

“I am looking forward to working with them as I saw potential in each and every one of them.”

Lionel Cronje, Franco Mostert, Jacques van Rooyen, Robbie Coetzee, Hugo Kloppers, JJ Breedt, Stokkies Hanekom and Kobus de Kock were named as the eight players to have recently joined the union.

“I trust they will feel at home at the Lions and enjoy their time on and off the field. I also believe that they will work hard and make our Lions supporters proud,” Ackermann said.

He said the new signings would form part of the team participating in the Lions Challenge series, taking place from January to August 2013, and some of them would also be part of the union's Currie Cup campaign. – Sapa
