Naka Drotske’s wife Marzanne says it is “going well with him” after he was shot in an incident near Pretoria on Thursday night.

The former Springbok hooker was shot by robbers who attacked him and his family at his brother Tinus’ house in Kameeldrift outside Pretoria, while they were having dinner.

Drotské sustained bullet wounds to his arm, chest and abdomen, and has undergone surgery in hospital.

Bok teammate Os du Randt was also present during the incident, but was not wounded.

Du Randt posted a message from Drotské’s wife Marzanne on social media on Saturday morning, in which she said that her husband was sleeping peacefully.

“I was by him. He is sleeping peacefully. His sister said that he slept the whole night. He was very badly hurt, so they are giving him lots of pain-killers, which is probably keeping him asleep,” she said.

“If you can just tell as many people as possible that it is going well with him, and that we really appreciate every call and message. It is carrying me at the moment.

“But I will reply to the thousands at a later stage. I have to use all my strength and energy to focus on my husband – it’s not that I don’t care (about the messages). Thank you, Marzanne.”

Du Randt added: “Thank you all so much for the messages and prayers – by the grace of God we are ok. Please keep Naka in your thoughts and prayers.

“Please know that we appreciate every call, message and all your prayers – we can’t reply to you all personally but we really do read your posts and messages.”

Thank you all so much for the messages and prayers - by the grace of God we are ok. Please keep Naka in your thoughts and prayers 🙏🏻🙏🏻
