CAPE TOWN – The injury-ravaged Blitzboks ran out of steam in the HSBC Singapore Sevens bronze medal play-off losing 26-24 on Sunday at the Singapore National Stadium.

In the final analysis, a conversion proved the difference after each side managed four tries.

For South Africa, Muller du Plessis, Cecil Afrika, Stedman Gans and Werner Kok scored tries. Afrika managed two conversions for the side's 24-point haul.

England's touchdowns came from Charlie Hayter, Ruaridh McConnochie, Tom Mitchell and Michael Ellery. Mitchell's three conversions proved the eventual match winner.

In the final play of the match, the Blitzboks had a gilt-edged chance to snatch victory but they infringement a mere 10 metres out from the tryline at a time when England has been reduced to six players.
