JOHANNESBURG – The Zimbabwe Cheetahs caused an upset by defeating Kenya 17-5 to lift the African Sevens Championship trophy in Monastir, Tunisia on Sunday.

It was a remarkable effort from the men from Harare who were taken to extra time in their semifinal before seeing off defending champions Uganda 24-19.

Kenya had a bit of an easier route to the final in thrashing Madagascar 36-5 in semifinal action.

The Ugandans managed to restore some pride in claiming the bronze medal with a 24-19 win over the Madagascans.

Zambia collected the plate final in outplaying hosts Tunisia 24-14.
