Sharks down Reds to pick up another road win

BRISBANE – The Sharks return home from Australia with three priceless overseas wins packed in their suitcases, and with bursting bonhomie, they are good value to kick on and beat the Jaguares in Durban on Saturday.

The Sharks went into their match at the Suncorp Stadium facing a Reds side that had pasted the Sunwolves by 65 points the week before but the locals were soon realising that they were in for a reality check from a much stronger side.

The Sunwolves are disappearing from Super Rugby at the end of this year’s competition while a young Sharks team under a new captain and a new coach are progressing in the other direction.

The Sharks continue to score tries almost at will. In all five of their games so far this season they have been the first team to score and this time it was hooker Kerron van Vuuren that did the honours.

Reds wing Henry Speights responded in the corner after veteran wing Lwazi Mvovo missed the high ball from the kick off.

The match niggled along to a half time lead of 11-8 to Reds before young flank Dylan Richardson muscled over.

The sloppy Sharks conceded a try from a quick tap by the Queensland scrumhalf following a scrum indiscretion but then two excellent long range penalties by Curwin Bosch stretched the Sharks in front.

In the 70th minute, Sharks captain Lukhanyo Am brilliantly read play to intercept on his 22 and sprint all the way to the Reds posts.

Five minutes later, Sharks right wing Madosh Tambwe scored after a brilliant Sikhumbuzo Notshe break that came from a Richardson steal for the Sharks, also on their own 22.
