Pretoria - A little-known political party called Agency for New Agenda will head to the High Court in Pretoria on Wednesday for an urgent order to prevent the Springboks from participating in the Rugby World Cup.

The party wants the South African national rugby team to be barred from from participating in the tournament, which kicks off in England on September 18, citing lack of transformation in the sport.

The Springboks play their first game against Japan on September 19.

The party wants officials of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, the South African Rugby Union (Saru) and all the players selected as coach Heyneke Meyer’s squad to surrender their passports and travel documents as these are “the properties of the government of the Republic of South Africa”.

It also wants an order for the authorities responsible for the ports of exit to bar the team from leaving South Africa for England.
