JOHANNESBURG – Springbok wing Ruan Combrinck returns to action this weekend when the Lions host the Stormers in a round eight Super Rugby match at Ellis Park on Saturday.
Combrinck picked up a shoulder injury while playing for his Japanese club Kintetsu Liners in the latter stages of last year and spent the last six months on the sidelines. It was the second shoulder injury in two years for the powerful winger.
The 27-year-old who has played seven Tests for the Boks will be back in the No 14 jersey on Saturday.
“It’s really exciting having Ruan back in action,” said Lions boss Swys de Bruin on Thursday when he named his lineup for the match.
“It’s been almost a year since he played for us in Super Rugby and while we could have pushed him into action sooner, he is now 100% ready to play again. He’s trained well and his experience will be a big boost for us.”
In other team news following last weekend’s defeat to the Crusaders, lock Marvin Orie returns to the second row to partner Franco Mostert, while the back row remains consistent with Hacjivah Dayimani getting another deserved run at No 8.
With Combrinck back in the mix, Sylvian Mahuza has to settle for a place among the replacements this weekend.
The Lions go into the match on the back of three defeats in four matches, while the Stormers lost to the Bulls at Loftus last weekend. Kickoff Saturday is 5.15pm.
