MONTPELLIER - French club Montpellier have signed South African prop Justin Ackerman as cover for the injured Antoine Guillamon, the club announced on Monday.

Ackerman, 25, joins from South African side Golden Lions to fill in for Guillamon, who is expected to be sidelined for between six weeks and three months following a groin operation.

There will be very little rest for Ackerman who could make his debut away to Glasgow in the European Champions Cup as early as Friday.

Both sides lost their opening two matches and are in desperate need of a victory to retain any hope of reaching the quarter-finals.

The French outfit lost the opening two matches by narrow margins when they first lost to Leinster (24-17) in round one, followed by a loss to Exeter Chiefs (27-24) in round two.

Glasgow fell to Exeter in round one (24-15) followed by a defeat to Leinster (34-18).
