Goal-scoring hero Thembi Kgatlana has been rewarded for grabbing a spectacular winner against Nigeria with a starting berth for Banyana Banyana against Equatorial Guinea on Wednesday night.

Kgatlana came off the bench against the Super Falcons on Sunday night, and produced a stunning volley in the 85th minute to secure a 1-0 victory at the African Women’s Cup of Nations (Awcon) in Ghana.

The Houston Dash striker is one of three changes to the starting line-up made by coach Desiree Ellis.

Kgatlana is joined by Nompumelelo Nyandeni and Kgaelebane Mohlakoana, who come in for Busisiwe Ndimeni, Mamello Makhabane and Refiloe Jane.

Equatorial Guinea were late replacements in the tournament for Kenya, and lost their opening match against Zambia.

Kickoff tonight is at 8.30pm SA time, with the top three teams at the end of the tournament qualifying for next year’s Women’s World Cup.

Banyana’s final group match is against Zambia on Saturday. The Zambians lost 4-0 to Nigeria earlier on Wednesday.
