While coach Ernst Middendorp is unable to call on star attacker Khama Billiat, Philani Zulu has been passed fit for the Caf Confederation Cup second leg tie against Elgeco Plus on Saturday.

The Amakhosi announced on their website that despite a face fracture, Zulu will be able to play against Elgeco (1.30pm SA time kickoff).

Chiefs take a 3-0 first leg lead into the match, but Middendorp said that the team won’t feel that they have already qualified for the next round.

“We will approach this match from a 0-0 point of view,” he told the Chiefs website after arrival in Antananarivo.

“We will have a few changes in the team compared to last week’s match at home. We have quality to replace Khama.

“I’m glad Philani Zulu was able to travel and is available for selection. We will go for goals.

“We are still working on a few tactical aspects of our game – this match is another opportunity to get the structure and approach right.”

Chiefs have made a strong start under new mentor Middendorp, winning both games – the Elgeco first leg and a 1-0 victory over SuperSport United – and will want to finish off a tumultuous 2018 in style.

“It works both ways though. When you’re winning, it’s usually better to continue playing to keep the momentum,” he said.

“On the other hand, the break will give some players a chance to recover from their respective injuries.”
