The SA Football Association (Safa) technical committee said they were “happy” with the four of the five interviews for the vacant Bafana Bafana coaching position conducted on Thursday.

Gordon Igesund, Gavin Hunt, Shakes Mashaba and Neil Tovey all presented with current interim coach, Steve Komphela's date set for next Monday.

The post was vacated after the sacking of Pitso Mosimane last week following the national side's poor spate of results.

“The Committee was very happy with the whole exercise,” said technical committee chair, Fanyana Sibanyoni, in a release on Thursday.

“Once we finish interviewing Steve, the process of finding a new coach will almost be complete, with only the approval of the Safa National Executive Committee remaining.”

The prospective candidates had been interviewed by Sibanyoni, Safa technical director Serame Letsoaka, association chief executive Robin Petersen, Jomo Sono, Clive Barker, Farouk Khan, Buti Mathathe and Suoane Ramashala.

The other committee member, Ted Dumitru, was not available as he is on business overseas.

The exercise was conducted under the watchful eye of auditors, Ernst & Young, according to Safa.

After completing the procedures, the new Bafana coach is expected to be named later this month with the expected date being June 30. – Sapa
