BERLIN – Augsburg grabbed an away point at Wolfsburg on Friday night with a 0-0 draw as both teams finished the game with 10 men.

Augsburg midfielder Jan Moravek saw two cards in quick succession and was sent off in the 54th minute, while Felix Uduokhai saw his second booking in the 86th minute for Wolfsburg.

Augsburg’s point gives them 37, good for 10th on the table. Wolfsburg would have liked more than just the one point as they have 30 points – just three points above the relegation playoff spot in 14th place.

“We cannot really be satisfied. We did not use our opportunities,” Wolfsburg captain Paul Verhaegh said.

Augsburg manager Stefan Reuter talked about the team’s nearing enough points to avoid relegation –10 points above a relegation playoff spot.

“We are getting close. We will take the point,” Reuter said.

Heavy rains in the first half kept both teams from coming up with many chances, though Augsburg keeper Marwin Hitz stopped Landry Dimita’s header in the 31st minute.

With the rain stopping for the second half, both teams started to create more attacking opportunities.

And Augsburg were close in the 48th minute as Jonathan Schmid turned in from the left and his shot was deflected away by Wolfsburg keeper Koen Caseels.

Wolfsburg neared the goal in the 53rd, but Robin Knoche sent a header just over the bar off of Verhaegh’s cross.

Augsburg went a man down in the 54th minute as Movarek saw his second warning within 83 seconds.

The guests found only the crossbar in the 64th as Marco Richter worked his way around three defenders and then looped a shot over Casteels, but only off the framework.

Wolfsburg hit the crossbar themselves just two minutes later on Paul Jaeckel’s blast from long-range.

The hosts kept up the pressure and nearly opened the scoring in the 72nd, but Divock Origi’s header flew just wide.

Wolfsburg could not finish off their chances and they saw their own red card as Uduokhai was booked a second time with four minutes left.

Hitz saved Augsburg the point in the second minute of stoppage time with a great save against a deflected Verhaegh attempt.
