JOHANNESBURG - Portugal talisman Cristiano Ronaldo is on course to surpass the legendary Ferenc Puskas on the list of most international goals. The Real Madrid star and the Hungary legend, who also earned four caps for Spain, are currently deadlocked on 84 goals each.

Portugal will lock horns against Morocco at 2pm on Wednesday at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow. Both nations are still searching for their first victory in tournament. Ronaldo and his troops played out to an entertaining 3-3 stalemate against the former World champions Spain on Friday, while Morocco succumbed to a heartbreaking 1-0 defeat against Iran.;

CR7 dazzled in his first match as he bagged the hattrick to earn a point for Portugal and rewrite the history books as he became the oldest player to notch up the three goals in one match at the world's biggest showpiece at the age of 33.

CR7 and records are synonymous. He is Portugal and Real Madrid's record goalscorer. Puskas, who also spent most of his career with Real Madrid, needed only 89 games to reach the 84-goal mark, while Ronaldo already has 151 caps.

Iranian International, Ali Daei, is at the summit of the standings for the most international strikes with 109 goals in 149 caps. Ronaldo is currently 16 goals from a century of strikes. He has already netted over 100 La Liga goals for Madrid and over a century of Uefa Champions League goals.

Ronaldo is currently tied with Denis Cheryshev on three goals at the World Cup after Cheryshev scored in Tuesday's win over Egypt in Russia's second game.

Juventus defender Medhi Benatia will be task with the job of marshalling Ronaldo on Wednesday. The duo also faced off in the Uefa Champions League quarterfinal where Ronaldo notched up three goals in the two legged tie. Ronaldo will be looking to get better off Benatia once again and add up to his tally.
