CAIRO – Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has been named in Egypt’s World Cup squad despite concerns over his shoulder injury.

Salah was one of two forwards named in Hector Cuper’s final 23-man squad as the Pharaohs continue to plot their Group A strategy with Salah in mind. Cuper is unlikely to be able to call upon his playmaker for their opening clash against Uruguay on 15 June but reports suggest Salah will be fit for the remaining fixtures against Saudi Arabia and Russia.

Salah netted 44 times in 52 appearances for Liverpool this season before a challenge from Sergio Ramos in the Champions League final put his participation in the global showpiece in doubt as he limped off before the break.

The Reds star took to social media to share a picture with “good feelings” as the caption, raising expectations he will be fit to play his part at the 2018 World Cup.

Salah will join Premier League colleagues Mohamed Elneny (Arsenal), Ramadan Sobhi (Stoke City) and Ahmed Hegazi (West Brom) in Egypt on 9 June before travelling to Russia.

Salah tweeted the following at the end of May:

It was a very tough night, but I'm a fighter. Despite the odds, I'm confident that I'll be in Russia to make you all proud. Your love and support will give me the strength I need. pic.twitter.com/HTfKF4S70e
