Cesc Fabregas has told Jose Mourinho to ‘shut up’ after the Chelsea manager claimed the current Barcelona team are the worst for ‘many years’.

The Catalan side answered their critics with a clinical 2-0 Champions League win over Manchester City on Tuesday night.

They also sit on top of La Liga and are through to the final of the Copa del Rey.

Speaking after the match, Fabregas was clearly irked by Mourinho’s comments. ‘We are top of the table, in the cup final and in a good moment in the Champions League — you cannot ask for more,’ he said.

‘Some people want us to fail and some people have been talking a bit too much. For a few days they will have to shut up.’

Asked if he was referring to Mourinho, the former Arsenal midfielder replied: ‘He should talk about Chelsea and their tie [against Galatasaray].

‘I don’t think he should talk about anything else. It is not his business.’

Fabregas said the key to Barcelona’s ‘complete game’ on Tuesday was starving City’s creative players of the ball.

‘It went the way we wanted. They are used to having the ball and controlling the game and when it’s the opposite it is very difficult to play.

‘But City still have a chance, of course. [The tie] is 180 minutes, not 90.’ – Daily Mail
