Messi sends message of support, urges people in Spain to stay at home
BARCELONA – Lionel Messi added his voice to those urging people in Spain to stay at home to help reduce the spread of coronavirus with an Instagram message to his 144 million followers.
The Barcelona player posted the message on Saturday. He also sent a message of support to those most affected by the crisis.
"These are difficult days for everyone," said Messi.
"We are worried by what is happening and want to put ourselves in the position of those who are suffering the most, because they or their friends and loves ones are affected, or because they are working in the front line in hospitals and health centres to combat the virus."
The Barcelona player posted the words alongside a picture of himself and two of his sons Mateo and Ciro, adding: "It's a time to be responsable and stay at home; it is a perfect moment to enjoy time that you don't always have with your [family]."
Barcelona players were sent home on Friday on the recommendation of the club's medical staff with all activity suspended until further notice.
La Liga announced on Tuesday that the competition had been suspended for at least the next two weekends.DPA
