Johannesburg – The club friendly between Liverpool and Ajax Cape Town is in jeopardy after the Premier Soccer League (PSL) declined permission for the match to go ahead on May 21.

The PSL says the fixture falls within their season and will detract from the Nedbank Cup final which is scheduled for May 25. The Absa Premiership is due to finish on May 18.

City of Cape Town councillor Grant Pascoe tweeted: “ Disappointed to hear that PSL refused permission for @ajaxcapetown to the friendly against LFC, the game will be played!”

It is unclear whether the City of Cape Town and Liverpool will attempt to move the fixture to another date or if they will be forced to cancel the match. – IOL
