London – Joe Cole is wanted by Harry Redknapp to push Queens Park Rangers away from the Barclays Premier League drop zone.

The relegation-threatened club will explore the option of taking the former England midfielder on loan until the end of the season when the transfer window reopens in January.

The former West Ham and Chelsea favourite is an outcast at Liverpool under Brendan Rodgers and needs a fresh challenge elsewhere.

And that could come at Loftus Road, where bottom team Rangers are attempting to salvage their campaign under newly appointed Redknapp. The deal will depend on the clubs coming to an agreement over Cole’s £90,000-a-week wages.

The QPR manager would jump at the chance to be reunited with Cole, who made his professional debut under Redknapp at West Ham in 1998. Cole signed for Chelsea for £6million in 2003 before moving to Liverpool on a free transfer in August 2010.

However, he arrived at Anfield just as the troubled reign of Americans George Gillett and Tom Hicks was coming to an end. And, after a poor start under doomed Roy Hodgson, he has since failed to secure a regular spot in the Anfield line-up under three different managers – Hodgson, Kenny Dalglish and Rodgers.

Cole spent last season on loan at Lille and, despite enjoying success in France, failed to secure a permanent switch across the Channel.

Now it seems he will be offered the chance to ressurect his career in the Loftus Road fight for survival. – Daily Mail
