London – Manchester United could have defender Nemanja Vidic back for Sunday's Premier League meeting with Tottenham Hotspur.
The Serbian defender suffered a knee injury in last weekend's victory of the leaders against Liverpool and he had been feared that both he and Ashley Young faced lengthy spells on the sidelines.
Young probably won't be back for Sunday but neither injury is as bad as was first thought.
“Actually, Nemanja's knee is okay,” United manager Sir Alex Ferguson told MUTV. “It was concussion. He had a little bit of concussion but he's okay and fine. He trained (on Monday) and was good.
“Obviously, Young has got a dull knock, a little bit of a strain on the knee, but it's nothing serious. I think he'll be back next week. Maybe not for Tottenham but, the week after, he should be okay.”
Also on Sunday, Chelsea aim to revive their faltering bid for second against Arsenal, who turned in arguably their best half of the season in beating Swansea City in the FA Cup on Wednesday.
Chelsea were disappointingly held to a 2-2 draw at home by Southampton in midweek, despite taking a 2-0 first-half lead.
“I think for us we cannot be happy drawing at home. I am disappointed,” said manager Rafa Benitez.
“When you know your players and what they can do it is disappointing. We have to think how we can improve for the next one.”
Chelsea trail second-placed Manchester City by six points. City, who are seven behind United, host struggling Fulham, who have won just two of their last 14 games.
Bottom side Queen's Park Rangers go to West Ham United, with record signing Loic Remy available to for a potential debut.
Reading, after their dramatic comeback to win against West Bromwich Albion last week, go to Newcastle United, who have won just two of their last 12 games, while Wigan Athletic, who moved out of the bottom three last week, host inconsistent Sunderland.
Aston Villa, in the relegation zone after taking a single point from five games since beating Liverpool, seek to halt their slide away at West Brom, whose good early season form has faltered of late.
Liverpool host Norwich City, Stoke City go to Swansea City in a clash of styles and the Monday night game sees Everton go to Southampton, who are now three points clear of the relegation zone after Wednesday's draw with Chelsea. – Sapa-dpa
