CAPE TOWN - Ajax Cape Town on Friday confirmed the signing of experienced defender Thamsanqa Teyise for the 2018-19 National First Division (NFD) season.

The former AmaZulu, SuperSport United, Maritzburg United and Free State Stars centre back has joined the club on a permanent deal, and will help fill the gap left by veteran defender Mario Booysen's move to Kaizer Chiefs earlier this week.

“I am very happy to be part of this great club, I am looking forward to the season ahead and to help this team back into the Absa Premiership,” said the 32-year-old Teyise. “That is what I want to do with all my heart.

“Playing under head coach Muhsin Ertugral will be a great experience for me and I’ve already learnt a lot in the short time since I arrived at the club. We have to work harder than ever to make sure that we bounce back into the Premiership at the first attempt. The club comes first. All I can do now is to go out there and deliver for the club.”

Teyise is the fourth defender brought in by the National First Division club in recent weeks. The loan acquisition of Harold Majadibodu from Mamelodi Sundowns was announced on Saturday, while the signing of Sibusiso Khumalo was announced on 1 August and Thendo Mukumela joined the club on 7 August.

Apart from Booysen, the other major departure from Ikamva during the break was club captain Mosa Lebusa's move to Sundowns. Ajax have also signed veteran goalkeeper Shu-Aib Walters, midfielder Ryamond Monama and Ivorian striker Guy Stephane Bedi.
