Two minutes after going behind to a Carlington Nyadombo penalty-kick goal, Bidvest Wits’ Bhongolwethu Jayiya hit back for the Clever Boys against AmaZulu to earn his side a share of the spoils in an Absa Premiership match at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The draw means Wits moved up into seventh spot on the league table with 18 points while the Durban-based side remain rooted to the bottom of the log with 11 points.

There was not much to write home about in the first 45 minutes as neither side were able to create significant chances in front of goal. Instead, with both sides unable to unlock the others defence, they opted to shoot from long range.

Andile Khumalo produced one such effort in the 17th minute, but the AmaZulu player saw his long range shot easily saved by Ryan Harrison.

Wits had their first real attempt on goal in the 21st minute, Matthew Pattison letting lose with a fierce strike, from just outside the box, but it was also well saved by Tapuwa Kapini.

Ayanda Dlamini squandered a golden chance of the homes side four minutes from the break when he rose to meet a Thamsanqa Teyise cross, but he headed wide.

The second 45 saw more excitement as it produce two goals almost immediately after the restart.

First in the 50th minute, AmaZulu took the lead from the penalty spot after Aaron Mokoena had pulled down Kulegani Madondo inside the box. Carlington Nyadombo converted the spot-kick, giving Harrison no chance, 1-0.

Wits, though, were did not let the goal get them down and they quickly hit back, Bhongolwethu Jayiya finding the equaliser with a deadly finish in the 52nd minute, 1-1.

Kagiso Senamela had a chance to win it for AmaZulu in the dying minutes of the game, but he headed wide from roughly 12-yards out after getting onto a Marc van Heerden cross.

In the end the points were shared and Wits will be the happier of the two clubs as they picked up a point away from home.
