CAPE TOWN – There were many question marks on social media from fans around a supposed new Kaizer Chiefs signing, nicknamed ‘Dax’.

But there has been no sight of the attacking midfielder from Madagascar – up until now. Chiefs announced on their Twitter page on Monday that Dax – full name Andriamirado Aro Hasina Andrianarimanana – is in the Amakhosi camp.

“I am very happy to be here. I have been following Kaizer Chiefs closely on Facebook during the last few weeks,” Dax was quoted as saying.

The 27-year-old’s former amateur club in Madagascar, Fosa Juniors FC, claimed in a Facebook post in late June that there was no deal between them and Chiefs for Dax.

“Following recent speculation in the media in respect of a transfer of Andriamirado Aro Hasina (Dax) to Kaizer Chiefs of South Africa, we would like to put on the record that the latter club has not approached Fosa Juniors FC for a transfer and no transfer has been signed between the two clubs.

“However, we remain open to any serious offer respecting the procedures for the international transfer of players.”

By then Chiefs had already announced that Dax – who impressed Chiefs in the Cosafa Cup, where Madagascar beat Bafana Bafana on penalties to reach the semi-finals – was on his way to Naturena, and now they have their man.

Dax will face serious competition for a place in the starting XI, with Khama Billiat and Siphiwe Tshabalala the creative forces at the weekend in the 1-1 draw against Mamelodi Sundowns. Chiefs’ next match is on Tuesday against Wits at the FNB Stadium (7.30pm kickoff).
