CAPE TOWN – In a surprise move, Orlando Pirates have sold their leading marksman Tendai Ndoro to a Saudi Arabian club.
Pirates have just begun a new era under the watch of Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic in a successful manner following a 1-0 victory over Chippa United.
But now they have surprisingly opted to let lethal goal-scorer Ndoro to leave the Buccaneers. The 29-year-old ended second on the PSL goal-scorer list in the Absa Premiership last season on 12, just one behind Lebogang Manyama of Cape Town City.
But he played off the bench against Chippa, with Thamsanqa Gabuza the lone striker upfront, so perhaps that was an indication that Ndoro was on his way out.
“Striker Tendai Ndoro will miss the Absa Premiership clash against Baroka FC tonight. The club can confirm that it has reached an agreement for the sale of the Zimbabwean international to Al Faisaly Football Club. Ndoro is due to undergo a medical in Saudi Arabia before the deal is finalised,” Pirates said in a statement on Tuesday afternoon.
In another blow to the team ahead of the Baroka game, Thamsanqa Sangweni will sit out due to a knee injury.
Pirates said on their website that Sangweni had failed a fitness test after picking up the injury against Chippa on Saturday, and will be out for up to two weeks.
However, one piece of good news for the ‘Ghost’ is that central defender Happy Jele is back from a one-match suspension.
