DURBAN – Maritzburg United have found the replacement for former captain Kurt Lentjies, who left the club and joined Chippa United.

Independent Media has been reliably informed that the Team of Choice have signed Cameroon international Yazid Atouba.

Atouba started training with the Team on Tuesday having arrived on Monday.

“He has signed for Maritzburg United. He is only waiting for his work permit. He is a gem. We’ve seen his video,” a source revealed.

Maritzburg have enjoyed a sensational start to their Premier Soccer League season, winning three matches out of four.

Atouba has five caps for Cameroon and has netted twice. He was on the books of AS Vita Club in the DRC last season. He joined them at the beginning of last season from Coton Sports.

Atouba (24) has played for Chicago Fire Soccer Club in US Major League Soccer.

Maritzburg United chairman Farouk Kadodia confirmed that they have signed a good player, but refused to mention his name.

Fadlu Davids’ team have built a formidable reputation of signing good foreign players.

Previously they have signed the likes of Cuthbert Malajila, Onismor Bhasera and Evans Rusike, who are all from Zimbabwe, Mohamed Awal from Ghana, Rudolf Bester from Namibia and Brian Onyango from Kenya.
