They have won six out of 10 matches, with just two defeats and two draws, and it is this consistency that has seen Wits clinch the Premiership Quarterly Q-Innovation prize on Friday.

The PSL announced that Gavin Hunt’s team will receive the R1.5 million prize money as they finished top of the log for Quarter One (Q1), with 16 points in eight matches.

The Clever Boys recorded five victories, one draw and two defeats in Q1, which is the first time they have been rewarded in the Q-Innovation since the 2016/17 season.

Hunt’s team are still in a strong position on the league log in second place on 20 points, just two behind Orlando Pirates, but with two games in hand.

Q1 consists of eight matches, Q2 has seven, Q3 has eight and Q4 has seven, with each quarterly winning club receiving R1.5 million.

For Q1, Mamelodi Sundowns, Pirates, Polokwane City, SuperSport United and Bloemfontein Celtic all scored 14 points.

The league continues this weekend, starting on Friday night with a clash between Maritzburg United and Highlands Park (8.15pm).

Wits take on Bloemfontein Celtic in Johannesburg on Saturday night (8.15pm kickoff), but the highlight of the weekend will be Sundowns’ clash with Pirates on Saturday (3.30pm).
