CAPE TOWN – Stellenbosch FC lead the way in the 2017/18 National First Division after the completion of the fourth round of fixtures this weekend, while Jomo Cosmos are creeping up the log after beating Richards Bay 1-0 on Sunday.

Stellies could have been overhauled at the top by local rivals Cape Town All Stars, but Igugu Lekapa were beaten 3-1 at home by Mbombela United on Sunday.

The Mpumalanga side triumphed thanks to an equalising strike from Siphesihle Zwane and a late brace by Tshepo Liphoko after the hosts were reduced to 10 men by the sending off of Nathan Gertse.

Saturday’s most notable result was an impressive 2-1 away win for Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila over Highlands Park, while Stellenbosch ended the day top of the log thanks to a victory by the same score at home to Black Leopards - Khomoto Masia’s own goal proved to be the difference at the Athlone Stadium.

Super Eagles and University of Pretoria were also winners on Saturday, as they proved too strong for Uthongathi FC and Royal Eagles respectively, while Mthatha Bucks v Witbank Spurs and Real Kings v Ubunt Cape Town both ended in 1-1 draws.

NFD fourth round results:

Mthatha Bucks 1 - Witbank Spurs 1, Super Eagles 2 - Uthongathi FC 0, Stellenbosch 2 - Black Leopards 1, Real Kings 1 - Ubuntu Cape Town 1, Highlands Park 1 - Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila 2, University of Pretoria 2 - Royal Eagles 1, Cape Town All Stars 1 - Mbombela United 3, Jomo Cosmos 1 - Richards Bay 0.
