JOHANNESBURG - Dove Wome has explained that he left SuperSport United because he was told that coach, Eric Tinkler, would not be willing to extend the player's contract with Matsatsantsa A Pitori.

Wome parted ways with SuperSport this past weekend, terminating his contract early, even though his deal with the club only expires at the end of June.

The Togolese international returned to the club after he went on a six month long loan spell lasy year with Orlando Pirates, where he impressed.

“I was told that my contract was not going to be renewed," Wome explained. "It wasn’t going to serve any purpose to stay on the bench for six months. The fact that the coach was not willing to renew my contract was a clear indication that he is not going to play me.

"These things do happen in football. Some coaches will like you and some of them will not like your style. This was the case with me. (Tinkler) is not bad ... I won’t say he is a bad coach because he opted not to renew my contract.”

Wome made six appearances, in all competitions, this season. He earned two Absa Premiership starts, three MTN8 matches and one appearance during the Telkom Knockout.

“I played more games in the Caf Confederation Cup and I didn’t get game time after the competition was finished," Wome said.

"I was working hard at training and waiting for my opportunities. I don’t hold any grudges against SuperSport, they really took care of me and it was unfortunate that I couldn’t fit in the coach's system."

So, where to now for Wome? Well, his agent is busy sorting out his next move and was spotted last week in Azerbaijan, where he was negotiating terms regarding Wome's services.

“Nothing is confirmed as yet. I will wait for my manager to come back to me. At the moment he is still searching,” Wome concluded.

Wome has also been linked to local clubs, with Cape Town City and Orlando Pirates said to be interested.
