JOHANNESBURG - It was a welcome victory for Wits, who have been poor in their league title defence. They languish at the bottom of the standings with nine points from 11 games.

Winning the Telkom Knockout and the return of Buhle Mkhwanazi should give the club confidence that it’s only a matter of time before they claw their way up the table. Wits have kept three clean sheets in the four matches that Mkhwanazi has started following his recovery from a knee injury that kept him out of action for six months.

Mkhwanazi leads our Team of the Week at the back along with his captain Thulani Hlatshwayo, Nazeer Allie and SuperSport United’s Aubrey Modiba. The versatile Matsatsantsa player led the Tshwane side to a 1-0 win over Ajax Cape Town on Wednesday.

SuperSport’s resolve will be tested as they play catch-up in the league after losing the Caf Confederation Cup final to TP Mazembe. Their depth will be tested in the five matches they will play in 15 days this month. Reyaad Pieterse proved that SuperSport have adequate depth in the goalkeeping department, as he kept a clean sheet in Ronwen Williams’ place.
