DURBAN – Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids is set to complete his Uefa A coaching licence.

United chairman Farook Kadodia confirmed that Davids is in Holland, where he is completing his licence.

Davids made a remarkable debut in his head coaching career. He was appointed as the head coach of the Team of Choice at the start of the season.

The position was vacant after Roger de Sa left the club. Davids was handed a two-year deal that has been recently ¬extended by two more years.

“People asked me how I could gamble when I appointed Fadlu. I knew Fadlu has got the passion to improve his coaching career. He made his own investment for the cost of the coaching course. He sacrificed time,” Kadodia said.

Davids is nominated for the coach of the season gong, along with Mamelodi Sundown manager Pitso Mosimane and ¬Orlando Pirates coach Milutin Sredojevic.

He made history in the season that has just ended, propelling Maritzburg United to their maiden cup final appearance. He also reached the semi-finals of the MTN 8 and finished fourth on the log.

Davids will opened the new season against Cape Town City in the quarter-final of the MTN8 at Harry Gwala Stadium.

Meanwhile, former Mamelodi Sundowns utility player Abel ¬Mabaso has penned a three-year deal with Pirates.

The Mercury has been reliably informed by a highly placed source that Mabaso will be donning the Bucs’ black and white next season.

Mabaso, 27, can operate as right back or central midfielder.

“Mabaso has signed for Pirates. He penned a three-year deal. He signed it today. It is a done deal. Pirates bought him from Chippa United because he was still contracted at the club,” a source confirmed.

Mabaso made his professional debut in 2012 when Sundowns demolished Kaizer Chiefs 4-1 in the MTN 8 quarter-final at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

He has also represented Ajax Cape Town and Mpumalanga Black Aces.

Pirates are reported to be also interested in the services of Chippa United midfield maestro Linda Mntambo.

Pirates’ administration Manager Floyd Mbele couldn’t confirm or deny -Mabaso’s signing.

“I don’t know. I’m not at the office,” Mbele briefly stated.

His manager Vusi Mthembu denied that they had signed with Pirates.

An attempt to get hold of Chippa United’s Marketing and Communications Manager, Luthando Zibeko, proved futile.
