Football star Andile Jali has been released on bail by the Hatfield Community Court on Tuesday after he was arrested on Monday for an alleged incident of domestic violence involving his wife.

Spokesperson for the Boschkop police station, Yeroboam Mbatsane, told IOL Sport on Tuesday that Jali had been arrested on charges of domestic violence and malicious damage to property.

This follows an incident at his home on an estate in Tshwane East with his wife, Nonhle Ndala, in the early hours of Monday morning.

Mbatsane said that Jali, a 28-year-old midfielder who plays for Mamelodi Sundowns, has also laid a counter-charge of assault against Ndala.

“Jali was arrested for domestic violence and malicious damage to property. His wife laid charges at Boschkop Police Station. Jali also laid a counter-charge of assault against his wife,” Mbatsane said.

“She has not yet been arrested. She did not sustain physical injuries, but her car was damaged – the tyres were slashed.”

It is unclear at this stage whether he will feature for Sundowns in their Telkom Knockout quarter-final against Baroka FC in Polokwane on Saturday.
