DURBAN - Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Edmore Chirambadare has surfaced in Maritzburg where he is on trial for the Team of Choice. Independent Media learned from a reliable source that the Zimbambean left footer started training with Maritzburg United on Tuesday morning
"Ed is in Maritzburg. He started training with the team this morning. He will be there for the few weeks. The coach (Fadlu Davids) is a big admirer of the boy but want to assess him closely," a source stated.
United had a stellar of the season in 2017/18, finishing fourth on the log. The club also reached the Nedbank Cup final and were the MTN 8 semi finalist. Chirambadare's agent, Mike Ngobeni of M-Sport-Management declined to comment. "At this pointing time, I can't comment about Edmore until he signed for his next club," he said briefly.
United have transfer-listed Yazid Atouba and are looking to beef up their squad. United chairman Farook Kadodia couldn't confirm whether Chirambadare is on trial or not. "I know they are few players on trials but at the moment I'm in Russia. I can't revealed their names," Kadodia, who is at the World Cup, elaborated.
United are also interested in the services of Keagan Buchanan and Fagrie Lakay. Lakay is still contracted to SuperSport United and Buchanan is a free agent after parting ways with Amakhosi.
United will face Cape Town City in the quarterfinal of the MTN 8 in a new season. The club's football manager, Quinton Jetto, confirmed that Chirambadare is on trial at the club.
"Yes, it is true. He started this morning (Tuesday). We are also assessing Jabulani Shongwe and Keagan Buchanan. The coach will make the call if he is impressed with their displays," Jetto said.
Shongwe was on loan at Lamontville Golden Arrows last season from Bidvest Wits. His contract with Wits expired and the club opted against renewing it.
