Orlando Pirates defender Ayanda Gcaba has handed in a transfer request.

He has struggled for game time this season under new coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic.

Independent Media has been reliably informed that Gcaba has already told the club’s chairman Irvin Khoza about his desire to leave the Buccanneers.

“Ayanda told the chairman that he wants to leave the club and go and find game time elsewhere.

"He still loves Pirates but the problem is that he is not playing. He wants to go anywhere where he will get game time.

"He is still waiting for Pirates to respond to his request. AmaZulu have already shown interest in his services,” a source stated.

Micho has changed his back four a lot this season but has hasn’t shown faith in Gcaba.

He has preferred to play Justice Chabalala, Ntsikelelo Nyauza who has also operated as a right-back, Gladwin Shitolo and Abbubakar Mobara, who has played different roles at the back.

Happy Jele has had his fair share of opportunities. Mike Makaab of ProSport International said that all Gcaba is looking for is game time.

“Gcaba is on his last six months with Pirates. If he is not going to play it is better for him to move on. I think that it will benefit the club if he does go because he is not playing. But we need to understand that he is under contract with Pirates. It all depends on what Pirates says,” Makaab explained.

Gcaba joined Pirates in 2012 from Free State Stars. He has featured regularly in the past under the guidance of other coaches.
