Mamelodi Sundowns are in the process of luring Kaizer Chiefs star George Lebese.

It is no secret that Lebese is not happy at Amakhosi.

A couple of months ago he wrote on his Twitter handle that all he wants is to play football, and it doesn’t matter where he is.

Lebese was missing last week when Amakhosi captured the Carling Black Label Cup at the expense of their arch rivals Orlando Pirates.

On Saturday, he was nowhere to be seen when Chiefs played Chippa United in an inaugural Premier’s Cup at Sisa Dukashe Stadium.

“Sundowns have been chasing Lebese for a while. It seems like they will finally land him. The player has already indicated to Chiefs that he want to leave,” a close source revealed.

Mamelodi Sundowns spokeperson Thulani Thuswa told Independent Media that he can’t comment on a player that is still under contract with another club.

“Lebese is a Chiefs player, so I can’t comment on a player that is still under contract with another team. Let us respect Chiefs. At Sundowns, we do things in a proper way. If we want a player, we communicate with his club. We don’t buy him in the media,” Thuswa elaborated.

Efforts to get hold of Lebese’s manager Steve Kapeluschnik proved futile as his phone rang unanswered.

Chiefs communications manager Vina Maphosa’s phone rang at the first attempt, and when he was called again, his phone was off.

Orlando Pirates have already confirmed that Oupa Manyisa was on his way to Sundowns.
