CAPE TOWN - Former Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund is back working again and has set himself the task of returning former club Santos to the top-flight PSL.

Santos, who have fallen on tough times and are now campaigning in the regional Second Division, on Monday announced the arrival of Igesund and businessman Bryn Ressel as partners in the club.

The new regime, along with club boss Goolam Allie, has committed itself to rebuilding the former PSL title-winners and returning it to its rightful status among the top clubs in the Cape and the country.

Igesund won the PSL title with Santos in the 2001-2002 season.

Ressel is a businessman and enterpeneur with a keen interest in various sports. He is particularly well-known in horse racing as a successful owner of some top-performing horses.

In a statement on Monday, Santos said: “In order to rise from the ashes stronger than before, it is essential that we consolidate the current operation and strengthen ourselves through the addition of strategic partners. Santos is proud to announce Gordon Igesund and Bryn Ressel as our newest partners.

“To get back to the glory days, and return to the PSL, the club has set itself a four-year plan. The plan will place great value on youth development structures while building a winning team of players and coaches, to be mentored by Gordon.”
