JOHANNESBURG – Kaizer Chiefs starlet Khotso Malope says that his demotion to the reserves team by coach Giovanni Solinas has served as a source of motivation for him to continue fighting for his place.

“My first season back in the club was not that difficult because when I came back the coach (Steve Komphela) gave me the opportunity to be part of the team. So it was up to me to work hard and be part of the team,’’ Malope said.

“It hasn’t been the same this season but as a player, when you get a chance, you need to prove yourself. So I am waiting for my chance.”

Asked whether coach Solinas explained to him why he’s not playing, Malope said: “No, I don’t think I have to go to the coach and ask him why I am not playing. I just need to keep on working hard and be ready, so that when the chance comes, I’ll be prepared.

He keeps telling me that I should keep working hard.”

In the MultiChoice Diski Challenge, Malope made four appearances in seven matches.

The player will hope to help the reserves bounce back to winning ways when they meet Orlando Pirates in the Soweto derby on Sunday at Vosloorus Stadium.
