Johannesburg - SuperSport United coach Cavin Johnson says pre-season preparations are well on track and is looking forward to his second Premiership season in charge of the Pretoria club.

United returned from their post-season break late last month and are already underway with plans for the new 2014/15 campaign, which kicks-off in August.

Johnson, took over from Gavin Hunt at the start of last season, guided his team to a respectable fifth place finish in his first season with the team.

United have made a number of impressive signings over the last month as they look to reignite their challenge for a top three-finish, something which has eluded the club for the past two seasons.

“Very happy with everybody. Happy with the signings that we’ve had, they’re doing very well and everything at the club is looking good,” Johnson said at the team’s training base in Pretoria on Thursday.

So far, United have been boosted by the signatures of defender Clayton Daniels (Bloemfontein Celtic) as well as midfielders Michael Morton (Maritzburg United) and Lerato Manzini (Bloemfontein Celtic).

The trio join youngster Andile Fikizolo, signed from Thanda Royal Zulu and Thamsanqa Teyise (AmaZulu), to complete a host of quality signings which should provide Johnson with a competitive side for the season.

“Michael Morton, Clayton Daniels and Andile Fikizolo bring a lot of energy, so much more energy to the team, it’s unbelievable.”

Johnson confirmed that his team would be taking their pre-season camp to Durban in the coming days, where they would play a number of friendlies, while also taking part in the Giyani Cup, a pre-season tournament held in Limpopo.

Meanwhile, Johnson once again cooled talk of his striker, Mame Niang, leaving Matsatsantsa, adding that the Senegalese striker has been an active member of the SuperSport camp.

Niang was heavily linked to a move to Orlando Pirates late last season, but Johnson dismissed talk of the attacker moving elsewhere.

“Mame is here with us, he’s been good… as ever. He’s a good player to have in the team, he’s a motivator.”
