CAPE TOWN – After capturing the signature of Khama Billiat last week, Kaizer Chiefs continued with their spending spree on Monday that will have the Amakhosi fans believing that good times are around the corner.

Chiefs announced on Monday that they have secured the services of Namibian goalkeeper Virgil Vries on a three-year contract.

Vries is effectively a replacement for Brilliant Khuzwayo, who has joined Orlando Pirates in the off-season.

The 29-year-old Vries is an experienced campaigner in the Absa Premiership, having previously turned out for Golden Arrows and Maritzburg United.

But he might face the same battle that Khuzwayo did to get game time, considering that Itumeleng Khune is still the undoubted No 1 at Naturena.

“After Brilliant Khuzwayo left, we wanted to get a seasoned goalkeeper to assist Itumeleng Khune,” Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung said on the club website.

“We have a few talented youngsters like Bruce Bvuma and Brylon Petersen who need to work with experienced keepers. We welcome Virgil.”

But Chiefs fans are still wondering who will coach them next season, as a replacement for Steve Komphela has not yet been found.
