CAPE TOWN - The return of midfielder Toriq Losper is a major boost for Ajax Cape Town as they prepare for a crucial PSL fixture against AmaZulu at the Athlone Stadium on Saturday night (kick-off 8.15pm).

The 25-year-old Losper has been plagued by injury. The last time he turned out for the club’s PSL side was in September last year. It has been a long, hard road to recovery, but the player is determined to get his career back on track.

For head coach Stanley Menzo, Losper’s availability is fantastic news, especially considering the team’s struggles to get going this season.

“It feels like a new signing to have Losper back,” said Menzo. “He brings a lot of energy, he can score goals and hopefully he can bring something different to the team.”

As for Losper, he can’t wait to return: “I’m really excited to return and play under the coach for the first time. I have done well in the MDC (Reserve Team), so hopefully I can carry that over into the PSL and build my confidence.”

Menzo, though, admitted that it would be a tough ask against a much-improved AmaZulu on Saturday.

“It will be a difficult game,” said the Ajax coach. “They’re a team that put in a lot of effort and energy, and we will need to control that.

“But it’s important that we get going now. We have worked very hard over the past few weeks. We need to focus on our own effort, but I have confidence that we can turn things around.”
