Maritzburg United are on the verge of signing former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Keagan Buchanan.

Buchanan cut ties with Amakhosi following three unfruitful seasons at the club where he hardly featured despite donning the number 10 jersey. The midfield ace has been on trial with the Team of Choice for about a month.

Independent Media has gathered that Buchanan will definitely sign for United.

"He hasn't put the pen on paper but he is going to sign. The club has been very impressed and they will announce him soon," a reliable source elaborated.

United punched above their weight last season as they reached two Cup semi finals. They then went on to finish fourth on the log and coach Fadlu Davids has enviable array of proven star quality at his disposal.

Maritzburg's midfield boasts the likes of Siphesihle Ndlovu, Lebohang Maboe, Fortune Makaringe and Delion Mekoa.  Paul Mitchell of Siyavuma Sports Agency couldn't be reached as his phone rang unanswered. 4United decided against signing Edmore Chirambadare and Jabulani Shongwe. The pair were also on trial.

The club's Football Manager, Quinton Jetto confirmed that they are about to sign Buchanan.

"Yes, we are working on that but we haven't signed him," Jetto briefly stated.

United blew a lot of their opponents away with their verve and youthful approach last season and they will be looking to continue with that form when the new season gets underway. The Team of Choice will open their account against Cape Town City in the quarterfinals of the MTN 8.

"Yes we have released Shongwe. He is no longer training with us," Jetto explained.

United have an abundance of young talent in their squad. They have already acquired the services of Denwin Farmer from SuperSport United.  Farmer is expected to fill the void left by Bevan Fransman. The experienced defender has joined the newly promoted Highlands Park.  Siyanda Xulu has been chosen as the club New skipper and Farmer is likely to partner the incumbent captain at the heart of defence.

Meanwhile, Independent Media has been informed that SuperSport United are set to assess the foreign duo of Idris Mbombo and Kelvin Moyo. Mbombo is from DRC but he is currently plying his trade with Nkana FC in Zambia while Moyo is operating as a left back for FC Platinum in Zimbabwe.
