Mosa Lebusa will captain Ajax Cape Town against Golden Arrows in the opening match of the new PSL season at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday night (kickoff 8.15pm).

The 24-year-old left back steps into the leadership void in the wake of the uncertainty around Travis Graham, who has skippered the team over the last few years.

Graham is in the last year of his contract, and is refusing to sign an extension.

He is in negotiations for a move to another club and has not been training with the PSL squad, and will not play on Saturday.

“Mosa was the vice-captain last season and that means he is next-in-line,” said Ajax coach Stanley Menzo at a press conference on Friday.

“I asked him if he wanted to captain the team, and he said yes. He is an experienced player and I think he has the personality to be a good leader, and the rest of the squad agree.”

Lebusa is looking forward to the challenge of captaincy and believes Ajax will show great improvement this season.

“We are eager to start,” said Lebusa. “We are hoping to win our first game. We are at home and I can see that the players are feeling good. We are focused, and we are working hard.”
