DURBAN - Siyanda Xulu is set to be appointed as the new captain of Maritzburg United in the new season. The incumbent skipper, Bevan Fransman, has parted ways with the club after failing to agree on a new contract.

For the two successive seasons, the club will be compelled to start the new season with the new skipper.

United also cut ties with Kurt Lentjies who was the skipper at the start of this season that has just ended. He was replaced by Fransman.

Independent Media has been reliably informed that Xulu will skipper the Team of Choice in the coming season.

"Xulu has been informed that he will captain the side next season. He is a born leader and his performances has been sublimed this season for the club. It is a great reward for him," a source revealed.

Xulu is expected to lead his side to even greater heights after a greatest season in club's history.

Farook Kadodia, the club's chariman, did hint that Xulu is likely to be handed the captain armband.

"He was a vice captain to Bevan and he should be a captain next season. He did very well after we gave him the platform to resurrect his career. He is a good players and we are looking forward to more from him," he said.
